The best month for sailfish in Puerto Vallarta

October 2, 2026

Short answer: there isn't one — which is the good news. Sailfish are the steadiest billfish on this coast, strong most of the year.

If you're picking a month on purpose, aim at the shoulders of winter. When the water cools, the fish push closer in, and the run to them gets shorter. That's more fishing and less steaming, which is the whole game.

Summer still produces — warm water, blue water, fish around — but you'll run further for them. Winter itself can be excellent too; it's the transitions, roughly November–December and March–April, where everything lines up: fish close, seas calm, boats happy.

The honest version: book the trip you can take, in the month you can take it. Then check the fishing calendar and we'll tell you what's actually biting that week.
